A Chosen Covergirl: Feature

happy

What comes to mind when you think of the word “joy”?

The word joy… it’s about life … to be happy from the inside and out… keeping a smile on your face.

What does it means to be confident?

To be active in who you are…to be sure in your gifts…to be driven in your thoughts.

Can you identify the time in your life when you began to totally accept yourself and all of your flaws?

To be honest it was only the last decade of my life. I began to accept who I am, how I was made up from others raising me, and how I was made up from my environment from growing up. I believe that all of my flaws didn’t mean that I wasn’t perfect or there was something wrong with me, but it was just a flaw. And in relationships and friendships those are things we have to either accept from another person or it could be a deal breaker.

What do you admire most about yourself?

15 years ago I lost my husband and I just had my daughter while I was living in a state with no family. It was one of the hardest things I had to deal with to move forward, but it was because of my faith that I’m still here. It was because of my faith that I’m still in my right mind and I’m thankful.

What would you tell your younger self or someone who has yet to discover her worth?

I would tell my younger self to take your time, to be patient with exactly who you are. When you begin to enjoy the journey, you begin to know yourself and that’s when you can discover your self-worth. Be confident in who you are and allow yourself to know your flaws and walk in your own truth.

If you could identify a celebrity who you believe exemplifies a Chosen Covergirl, who would that be and why?

It would be Mary J Blige. We all have a story to tell and her life journey has been amazing, good and bad.

My Greatest Influence

Mother’s Day is approaching and many folks have high anxiety hoping they could cope with their mother or mother figure no longer in their presence.

Sometimes we don’t know how to channel our grief rather it’s been a year to ten years and more but the love is still there. The best thing to do for your loved one or friend who is experiencing this grief is to be there with your presence.

I would love to be able to say Happy Mother’s Day to my grandma, the strongest beautiful and sassy person I knew.  I know of many sacrifices’ she made to keep a smile on my face, many prayers she petition to keep me safe, and there were many times we would just sit and not say a word, being a comforter.

So yesterday I found myself exhausted not from tiresome but of wanting to hug or kiss from this special person, my Grandma Dot

I truly miss her .. and I’m always telling stories to my daughter about her so she could know what type of person she was.  Make Mother’s Day a happy day, there are many more people in our lives to celebrate who are here, that old saying give them their flowers while they’re still here.
